The Spanish ceramic tile sector faces a decline in exports in 2024, although some signals point to a stabilization or even a slight recovery during the current year. According to forecasts from the Spanish Association of Ceramic Tile and Pavement Manufacturers (ASCER), the 2024 financial year was expected to end with a slight decline in total exports compared to 2023. This trend was confirmed by recently communicated data by the competent ministry.

Between January and November 2024, Spanish ceramic exports reached a value of 3.215 billion euros, down 3.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. In terms of volume, the decline was even more marked, approaching 4%.

Among the sector’s ten main export markets, only two countries recorded an increase in volume demand over this period: Morocco, sixth destination, with imports amounting to 112.6 million euros (+1 %), and Greece, ninth market, with 77.9 million euros (+10%). The latter figure, while notable, reflects more of a post-crisis recovery than a real breakthrough, with Greece having been relegated to lower positions in the decade following its severe economic crisis.

On the other hand, the five main markets – the United States, , the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany – are experiencing significant declines, particularly in France and the United Kingdom, where declines exceed 10%. , due to the slowdown in the construction sectors in these countries.

Furthermore, Algerian imports of Spanish frits and enamels reached only two million euros, placing Algeria in eighth place among commercial destinations, while it was absent from the ranking in 2023. Before the blocking of relations commercial, Algeria occupied the second position of export markets in the sector.
