Football, Comtal – Garonne affair: the match confirmed to be replayed on appeal, “it’s a scandal” for the Sébazacois

“It’s a scandal. And they know who they are doing this to. We are the peasants of Aveyron. Such a decision would never have been taken for a big regional club. For Guillaume Laneau, the coach of FC Comtal in Regional 2, the decision of the League appeals committee, regarding the unfinished championship match against FC Garonne-Gascogne on November 9 in Sébazac, does not pass.

After being interviewed (via video) last Wednesday, it was with amazement that the Aveyron club learned, via the minutes published Friday, that the match was, as in the first instance, given to be replayed.

89th or 90th + 1 minute of play: that changes everything!

Let's get back to the facts. That evening, the Sébazacois led 2-1 against the team from Verdun-sur-Garonne. The tension rises to the point that the referee distributes two red cards on the visitor's side. A first at No. 9 for a gesture of humor towards the Aveyron public. The second at No. 2 and captain after the latter came near the official to sharply ask him for explanations. According to the referee, at that moment, “the necessary conditions for a match were no longer met”. He thus decides to definitively stop the game, not confirming the result. At first instance, before the regional disciplinary commission at the beginning of December, this choice of the referee – who was not present during the hearing – not to end the match had been judged (!) in view of the context reported by the other actors , which motivated the fact of giving it a replay. But this time, the key element is the timing in which the shutdown occurred.

Where is the sporting logic?

For the Sébazacois, it was not in the 89th minute of play that it was effective, but indeed in the 90th + 1, i.e. in stoppage time. “The central referee having indicated to the club (this that evening) that he mentioned on the FMI (computerized match sheet) the 89th so that the sanction pronounced against the player would be substantial”, it is indicated in the minutes of the appeal commission, emanating from the Caussenard camp. And as the match delegate did not appear at the hearing of the appeal committee any more than at that of the disciplinary committee, he was not able to tell his version. The appeal committee, with regard to article 128 of the FFF regulations, retaining the version of the officials, in other words, in this case, that of the referee.

Enough to feel a bit like the turkeys of the joke for the Causenards, who by trying to restore calm on and around the field that evening, despite themselves put the visitors back in the match. “I don’t understand why the referees’ union is not stepping up to the plate,” also supports Guillaume Laneau. Because (these two decisions) clearly point it out. » Strongly deploring a certain “jurisprudence” that this case could give rise to. “It's very simple, now, a trailing team can make things go wrong so that the referee stops the game and the match has to be replayed… Where is the sporting logic? »

However, FC Comtal will not pursue its appeals, the next of which was referral to the CNOSF. “We don't have the means, we remain a small club,” explains Laneau, whose club must already pay the €130 costs of the appeal procedure.
