The construction site of the Sartrouville school campus is taking shape. The site will accommodate 1,200 students, from kindergarten to middle school. The €80M project is supported by the Department of Yvelines (66%) and the municipality of Sartrouville. The future campus will combine architectural innovation and respect for the environment. It will be a good place to study and teach.

“It will be a very innovative and attractive campus where it will be good to study and teach. Thanks to its bilingual English-French center, it will respond to the growing demands of expatriate families who want to settle in Yvelines,”
welcomes Pierre Fond, Mayor of Sartrouville and vice-president of the Department of Yvelines, delegate to Intercommunality, Europe and the Paris Metropolis.
A bioclimatic architecture integrated into the environment
The project selected is that carried out by the group made up of the construction companies Léon Grosse and GCC, associated with the architectural firms Officina and Gianni Ranaulo Design.
A large green space (with an educational garden and the planting of 80 trees) will give pride of place to this school city of high environmental quality which highlights the biosourced materials, a biomass boiler room and photovoltaic panels on the roof. Made up of a nursery school, an elementary school and a middle school, the future campus will also include an amphitheater, a sports center, a documentation and information center, a leisure center without accommodation (ALSH), a Language center, a school restaurant and various spaces for students and teachers.

According to the architect Alessandro Maiolatesi, ” one of the major challenges was to find the best possible integration of this vast project with its immediate environment made up of recreational, sporting and cultural places (the Pony club and the National Theater of Sartrouville) and residential neighborhoods (pavilion in the south- west and collective housing buildings to the north) ».
-Alessandro Maiolatesi further specifies: “The buildings of the middle school and the nursery school fold in on themselves and on their respective courtyards, like shells. This creates a protective morphology for classes and lessons in relation to the environment around them. The same principle is partially applied for the elementary school part, in order to preserve the existing grove of remarkable trees, eventually integrated into the elementary courtyard. The cohesion of the buildings of the Cité scolaire is possible thanks to the Canopy. It is a covering structure which links the three establishments concentrating the different pedestrian flows in order to guide them through the space. Parts of the Canopy are completely covered to shelter from the rain, this concerns the playground areas of the elementary and middle schools, located at the ends of its route. »
The Sartrouville School City will have a bilingual center
The Cité scolaire meets a dual objective.
“The first is educational. It consists of ensuring the academic success of students. The Cité scolaire is in fact designed as an educational unit ensuring a coherent transition between school and college. In addition, the future establishment is designed as a living space encouraging increased attendance time for students and adults in order to allow learning outside of school hours.”
The strategy, beyond the quality of future equipment, will be to ensure English bilingualism for 100% of students at the end of 3rd grade. as well as a close link with the neighboring National Drama Centre, to provide learning pathways.
The second objective, territorial, aims to ensure more social diversity. Indeed, the city is facing a growing demand for schooling from families with international mobility backgrounds. It is in this sense, but also to strengthen social diversity and the attractiveness of public facilities, that the college will be resolutely oriented towards the international world, with a strong linguistic dimension.
