The commune of Gleizé will award a exceptional grant in the amount of 5 000 eurosto support the French department of Mayotte, after the passage of cyclone Chidowhich hit a large part of the island hard on December 13 and 14, 2024. This decision follows the municipal council of Monday January 13, 2025, during which the proposal was voted unanimously by all municipal councilors.
The mayor's words
The mayor of Gleizé, Ghislain de Longevialle, declared: “Our municipality also joins forces with the Mahorese community living in Gleizé and we send them all our sympathy and condolences for their loved ones who died in this tragedy which affects the entire nation”. It is important to know that the sum of 5,000 euros will be paid to Civil Protection.
According to the mayor, this state agency is “perfectly experienced in acting effectively during humanitarian crises of this nature”. Note that the municipality had already provided financial support to Civil Protection during other natural disasters, the latest being the earthquakes occurring in the High Atlas in Morocco in September 2023.
