Is the situation in the town of Ham and its sector really difficult in terms of jobs? According to data from France Travail, the unemployment rate in the Somme is decreasing and therefore so are job seekers. A trend which is also visible in the East of the Somme and in particular in the Ham agency. “Most of the data is only extracted at the agency or district level, but the trends are identical across the sector” explains Amélie Lebeau, director of the France Travail agency in Ham.
The unemployment rate has fallen
In order to compare, let us note a drop of 0.1% in the unemployment rate in the Somme in the third quarter of 2024, i.e. a rate of 8.5%, whereas it was 9.4% in 2019 and 10.6 % in 2020. “The demand for employment (people looking for work registered with France Travail) decreased further at the end of September 2024: – 2.1% for ABC categories (unemployed or reduced activity) for the Ham agency against – 0.4% for the Hauts-de-France region. Same downward trend for the municipality of Ham. So the dynamic is still present.” specifies Amélie Lebeau.
And to add: “Important element: we still note a drop in job demand for long-term job seekers who have been registered for more than 12 months, i.e. – 4.9% at the end of September 2024, ABC categories from the Ham agency (compared to + 0 .7% for the region). The work in collaboration with our partners such as the departmental council should be highlighted for those registered for more than 12 months with peripheral obstacles to employment. In 2025, with the registration of everyone on the lists of job seekers, including RSA beneficiaries and their spouses, and young people supported by local missions, we will intensify our collaborations with our partners to support our most vulnerable populations in particular. more fragile such as young people, beneficiaries of the RSA, over 50 years old, beneficiaries of the employment obligation among others…“
Long-term job offers
And who says a decrease in job seekers, could mean an increase in job offers, or greater needs for businesses… But that is not the case. On the contrary, job offers recorded by France Travail are down by – 4.9% in the district of Péronne (compared to – 5.9% for the Somme). “Same downward trend in the Ham agency and in the municipality of Ham. On the other hand, 71% of job offers are long-term CDI AND CDD contracts of more than 6 months in Ham. For the Ham agency, we are at 41.5% because there is a strong representation of temporary workers (and not in the municipality of Ham itself).” continues the director of the Hamoise agency.

In addition to employment, France Travail also offers training prior to recruitment. “In 2024 for the Ham agency, there will be 28 courses which have enabled employers to develop the skills of candidates in order to be fully operational in the position. 155 immersions via the Ham agency were also carried out in 2024 so that recruiter and candidate can “test themselves” in real conditions.
