A rescue operation made it possible to come to the aid of 84 migrants stuck at sea in Pas-de-Calais, their boat having failed on a sandbank.

This Monday, January 20, a boat of migrants was spotted near the Walde lighthouse, off the coast of Pas-de-Calais. Alerted by a witness, the Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (Cross) of Gris-Nez mobilized the DFP1 patrol boat Jacques Oudart Fourmentin, belonging to French customs. When the crew arrived on scene, they found that the boat had run aground on a sandbar, reports BFMTV. This intervention is part of a new sea rescue operation coordinated by maritime authorities.

Rescue teams were mobilized to recover shipwrecked people isolated by rising waters. Twenty-two people were saved and transferred to the port of Calais by the nautical means of the Codis 62. The sixty-two other passengers on the boat were taken care of and transported to Boulogne-sur-Mer. In total, 84 individuals were assisted during this operation.
