The Ministry of the Interior, General Jean Baptiste Tine and his services have decided to organize, from February 1 to July 31, 2025, an ordinary revision of the electoral lists.

This, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code in article 37 which states: “The electoral lists are permanent. They are subject to an annual review initiated by the Administration. Except in cases of force majeure, this so-called ordinary revision takes place within the time limits set by this Code (…)”. It is clear, therefore, that this provision of the Electoral Code was not respected by the state authorities, because the last ordinary revision of the electoral lists dates back to 2016. In recent years, there have only been extraordinary revisions, also defined and regulated by Senegalese electoral law.

Indeed, reports L’Observateur, article 37 of the Electoral Code, before each general election, an exceptional revision is decided by a decree which determines the duration of operations and the deadline for disputes. “In this case,” we read in the same article, “there will be no ordinary revision.

However, the exceptional revision may be decided in the same form, in the event of an early election or referendum. If the deadlines for organizing an early election or a referendum do not allow the normal conduct of an exceptional revision, the election or consultation is made on the basis of the electoral list revised in the current year . . »

For this current ordinary review, which will last six months, the state authorities are taking the necessary measures so that it can be held in good conditions. The Ministry of the Interior and its services have been working for several days to this end, in contact with the stakeholders concerned.

Already, according to the Electoral Code, the ordinary revision is carried out by administrative commissions composed of a president and a substitute designated by the prefect or sub-prefect, the mayor or his representative, and a representative of each legally constituted political party or coalition of legally constituted political parties, declared to this effect to the competent authority.
