Lhe emancipation of the reformist left from the tutelage of Jean-Luc Mélenchon will remain as the major political event of the beginning of the year. Far from putting into perspective the decision, taken by a large majority of socialist deputies, not to vote on the motion of censure tabled by La France insoumise (LFI), the communists and the Ecologists with the aim of bringing down the government of François Bayrou, several Representatives of the social democratic camp hit the nail on the head, each in their own way, on the weekend of January 18-19.

« Jean-Luc Mélenchon will have to learn to argue rather than insult or threaten”declared, Saturday, the first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), Olivier Faure, in an interview with The Dispatch, in reaction to threats of electoral retaliation from LFI. All about his victory, the former President of the Republic François Hollande trumpeted the same day in an interview with La Tribune Sunday that, from now on, “nothing can be done without [les socialistes] nor against them. They have the key until 2027.”
-In his blog, the former boss of the PS Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, who became president of Nouvelle société, insists. For him “the issue was less about bringing down the Bayrou government, which had ensured the essentials with the RN decision [Rassemblement national]than to mark the autonomy of the PS, whose field of vision until then came from the ukases of Mélenchon, and not from the interest of the country or, incidentally, of the left. Guest of the show “Questions Politiques” on France Inter, Sunday January 19, Place publique MEP Raphaël Glucksmann, for his part, felt reinforced in his desire to “build a political offer without La France insoumise and Jean-Luc Mélenchon”.
Liberation
The kind of jubilation that shines through most of these declarations is akin to liberation. It reveals the weight of the snakes swallowed in recent years, under the banner of Nupes and the New Popular Front, by those who cannot support the authoritarian drift of Jean-Luc Mélenchon nor his communitarian approach. However, it deserves to be put into perspective when we look at the conditions in which the emancipation, dreamed of many times, was this time able to occur.
