The Provincial Cold Wave Mitigation Plan targets more than 48,000 people in Al Haouz province, including 16,000 children and 6,000 elderly people, with a focus on support and assistance to vulnerable groups.
These data were revealed during a meeting of the provincial monitoring committee, held Monday in Tahannaout, and chaired by the governor of Al Haouz province, Rachid Benchikhi, in the presence of representatives of the various departments concerned, in order to move into review the measures taken to mitigate the negative effects of the cold snap during the 2024-2025 winter season.
According to the same data, the targeted population at the provincial level is distributed in 150 douars, of which 38 are classified in the high-risk red zone.
In the area of health, health services have been strengthened thanks to the mobilization of 32 general practitioners, 11 specialist doctors and 111 nurses, in addition to the equipment of 86 ambulances and the scheduling of 187 field visits for medical teams and the organization of five specialized medical campaigns.
In terms of logistics, 95 snow removal vehicles have been deployed to the most affected areas, and advanced and fully equipped centers have been set up to ensure rapid response.
-Communication and energy infrastructure has also been strengthened, with the improvement of the mobile phone network in remote areas and the replacement of damaged electricity poles.
In addition, an early warning system is being developed via smartphone applications to provide residents with real-time information on weather conditions.
The measures also include the distribution of basic products such as firewood, improved stoves and blankets to affected families, in addition to supporting schools with 75 tons of firewood and 7,500 blankets to ensure the continuation of schooling.
