Last November, Sony has unveiled the PS5 Pro, a slightly different version of the PlayStation 5. But thanks to Mark Cerny, video game designer, we learned that the PS6 could show up much sooner than we thought. A lead which seems to be confirmed today.
After Nintendo and Microsoft, Sony accelerates the development of the PS6
Very clearly, the video game world is constantly developing. While Nintendo unveiled its future console, the Switch 2 whose official presentation is scheduled for April 2 and that Microsoft is reportedly preparing an Xbox Prime, a next-gen console offered with a Call of Duty developed by Infinity Ward to support the launch of the console, Sony would not be left out for its next machine.
And for good reason, we had, before the end of 2024, some details on the PS6 from the Japanese manufacturer. Sony and AMD have teamed up to create Project Amethyst with the aim of serving the next PlayStation. According to the information from the leaker Kepler_L2 which is normally reliable, Sony would have worked hard for this future console. According to him, the SoC of the PS6 would be “design complete” but also in phase of “pre-sillicon validation“. What does that mean?

Sony plans PS6 release very soon
Quite simply that Sony has therefore finalized the technology of its next console and is already thinking about the testing stage. This means that the Japanese company is progressing quickly and well and that physical prototypes of the SoC could see the light of day by the end of the yearee. Therefore, if the schedule is respected, within two years, we could see the PS6 land on our store shelves. Or in 2027!
After disagreements between Intel and Sony, the Japanese firm turned to AMD to use its components. Even if we do not yet know the characteristics of the chips we should be able to enjoy an extraordinary gaming experience.
However, as every time there is a leak, this information should be taken with caution. For now, Sony has not made anything official for its next console. But as a reminder, 2027 is not an insignificant date because it corresponds to the average duration between two consoles from the manufacturer. It remains to be seen if technological improvement accelerates to this point or if it is the competition which is putting pressure on Sony… To be continued!
