The authorities launched an alert this Monday on the illegal sale of “erectile” honey in France. Last year, according to customs, there were never so many seizures of these products which mix honey and medicines intended (all or part) for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. In November alone, around 13 tonnes of this so-called “aphrodisiac” honey, coming from Malaysia, were intercepted: the goods were pretending to be “natural” honey, via documents riddled with inconsistencies.
Sticks sold for a few euros
Often presented in the form of pods of a few grams, these “sweets” are packaged in boxes of several units, each of which is sold in night shops, in particular, for a few euros. They are marketed under several brands such as Black Horse, Etu Max, Bio Max and Mesk Elyamen. Customs indicate that most of these products, unlike natural honey from Europe, are imported from Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey or Tunisia by sea or express freight through internet purchases.
Medications potentially risking health
Above all, under promises of “festive”, fitness or health effects, these products can prove to be “dangerous” for health: there is no mention of the dosage of the active ingredients (sildenafil or tadalafil) used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction, although subject to regulation. Possible contraindications or undesirable effects are not mentioned further. Everything is based on the ignorance of buyers or consumers.
