If you are a regular, you have undoubtedly noticed that the Domino’s Pizza de Montereau, which opened its doors in January 2013, was no longer part of the list of restaurants offered for delivery by the American fast food chain on its website. And for good reason, the establishment has lowered the curtain since Monday January 6. A closure linked to economic problems.
“We created debt by working”
“In terms of turnover, it became very complicated. We weren't making any more money. We even created debt by working, so we preferred to stop the bleeding,” explains Ludovic Forniowner of Domino's Pizza in Montereau.
And according to the franchisee, the chances of seeing the Monterelais restaurant taken over after his departure are slim: “Our specialty is taking over restaurants in difficulty to turn them around, so when I close, there is rarely anyone who takes the risk of coming behind me. The headquarters could possibly take it back, but the room would have to be cut in two with another project on the side,” he confides.
Unfortunately, the seven employees who worked in this establishment, located route de Sens, in the activity zone which is opposite the McDonald's, should therefore soon be licensed.
Also owner of Domino's Pizza in Fontainebleau and Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours (opened in March 2024), Ludovic Forni recognizes that economic difficulties are general.
-“It’s very complicated. In Nemours, we are starting to struggle and in Fontainebleau, where we have been based for 13 years, this is the first year where it is difficult,” he reveals.
“We have suffered since Uber Eats was established”
A situation which, according to him, is explained in particular by the strong development ofUber Eats in the south of the department.
“The Domino's in Melun also closed last year and, generally speaking, in southern Seine-et-Marne, we are suffering a little more than the others since Uber Eats was established. This hurts us a lot and drains us of turnover. We now have competitors who weren't there two or three years ago. Previously, there were four or five players in the delivery field and today, there are around forty,” he emphasizes.
Contacted by The Republic of Seine-et-Marnethe brand prefers not to elaborate on the reasons for this closure: “We understand that the closure of a store can raise questions. However, the case of Montereau-Fault-Yonne is not not linked to an exceptional eventopenings and closings are part of the life of a franchise network,” concludes Domino’s Pizza.
