The partners signed a partnership agreement on January 15 and base their collaboration on a dual commitment: the recycling of building waste on the one hand and the eco-design of construction products and solutions with the incorporation of recycled material.
Concretely, as part of this two-year partnership, AP-HP, as project owner, undertakes to structure its building renovation, maintenance and deconstruction markets around the circular economy, and in particular to promote its hospital assets, its housing or in the public markets that it will launch, careful selective disposal, sorting at source, collection and recycling in a closed loop or failing that in an open loop waste when it is not not reusable or reusable. This will involve at least the mineral fraction of the waste and that made of metal, glass, plaster and glass wool. The AP-HP is also committed to integrating the content of the certificates on avoided carbon emissions and the quantities of preserved raw materials provided by Saint-Gobain in its environmental report.
For its part, Saint-Gobain is committed to continuing the development of closed-loop recycling channels for its construction products and solutions and to developing products and solutions with lower raw resource intensity by promoting the integration of recycled materials or renewable, extend their lifespan, facilitate their recycling or reuse. The Group has already launched in France a range of low-carbon glass, “Oraé”, made from 64% cullet, the “Placo Infini 13” plasterboard produced from more than 50% recycled material, or even Lanaé glass wool made from 50% recycled glass and a biosourced binder. For all of its products, Saint-Gobain is committed to producing Environmental and Health Declaration Sheets (FDES) which attest to the limited impact of its products on the environment.
The effect of the health system on climate change is significant since its CO2 emissions represent around 8% of total French emissions, divided between the provision of care at 45% and medical devices at 55%. The six hospital groups of AP-HP, spread throughout Ile-de-France, represent a heritage of 3.5 million m² of buildings for which it invests around 500 million euros annually. All of this renovation work is part of the “30 levers for acting together”: an action plan through which the AP-HP engages with its patients and staff on programmatic avenues. and innovative solutions to improve working and welcoming conditions.
