The situation of the MotoGP world championship currently remains fragile since two teams (the official Team and the satellite team, Tech3) are currently threatened, due to the serious financial crisis experienced by KTM. Some rumors announcing an outright withdrawal of the Austrian at the end of 2025, although the bosses of the division dedicated to motor sports have already denied this.
For Rivola, KTM will stay in MotoGP
But for the boss of Aprilia Racing, Massimo Rivola, the warning was issued to all manufacturers and teams involved in MotoGP. Indeed, the Italian spoke on the subject during the presentation of the 2025 livery last week. While its structure has just made a large investment, by paying the reigning MotoGP world champion, the Spaniard Jorge Martin, defector from Ducati (Pramac).
« This is one of my endless discussions with Carmelo (Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna; Editor's Note) and the MotoGP environment. I still believe that our sport, our business, is a little too expensive. And I think we don't necessarily need a lot [d’argent] to put on a good show“, begins by declaring the transalpine.
Then he continues by mentioning more directly the case of KTM which, according to him, will not leave the premier category.
« The warning we received of the KTM situation should not be seen as 'bad luck'. We must learn from this and act on it. I hope we will talk about it again with the next five-year contract. The new cycle of contracts with manufacturers will come into force from 2027. I don't think we're going to lose KTM. And I think the championship needs KTM.”
-Finally, Rivola talks about the recent acquisition of the motorcycle series by Liberty Media. A takeover that Massimo sees favorably, particularly because of the work already accomplished in F1 by those involved.
“It's time to announce some good news for MotoGP because I think we are putting on the best show ever. But we don't get back what we deliver. I would be very interested to see Liberty (Media) involved, as the Americans are generally good at internal marketing, as you can see from what they have done in Formula 1. Seems like they have some sort of 'magic touch' ', and that's exactly what we need in MotoGP. It's a wonderful sport, and the drivers are like superheroes. We need to show the world who they are“, he concludes.
