For his return to the White House, Donald Trump wants to project a triumphant image. A few hours before the inauguration, Washington DC has the air of an entrenched camp with its tens of kilometers of secure fence and its helicopters on alert. The secret services have rehearsed each movement of the presidential procession, 25,000 police and soldiers will be deployed.

Symbolically, the 47th president chose to take the oath of office at 11:47 a.m. Tradition dictates that the ceremony takes place in the Capitol Markets, facing the crowd, but the freezing temperatures expected on Monday, January 20, prompted the authorities to review their plan. It is under the dome, like Ronald Reagan in 1985, that Donald Trump will promise to protect the constitution in front of 700 hand-picked guests. The traditional parade through the streets of the city is moved to the large performance and sports hall in the center of Washington.
