Based in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, the Maroni Raquette club has established itself as a key player in racquet sports in western Guyana. Thanks to varied activities and passionate supervision, it introduces Tennis, beach tennis, padel and pickleball to a wide audience.
Since 2022, Maroni Raquette has been introducing its 160 licensees to a diversity of still little-known disciplines, such as beach tennis, but also padel and pickleball. “We want these sports to become accessible to all and to bring together all generations,” explains Béatrice Saxemard Boulot, president of the club.
By structuring its offering around a unifying spirit, the club attracts enthusiasts and actively develops beach tennis in western Guyana. This discipline, which is played with specific rackets and a net similar to that of volleyball, particularly appeals to young people.
Since we launched the initiations, many young people have joined the club and continue to practice regularly.
adds Beatrice.
The dynamism of Maroni Raquette was illustrated last December, during the organization of its very first interclub beach tennis tournament. This event brought together 23 teams from Cayenne, Kourou and the surrounding area, offering a unique opportunity for competition and exchanges.
The atmosphere was incredible, and the welcome from Saint-Laurent was wonderful
testifies Tamili Joseph, player from the Guyane Beach Tennis club.
This tournament, approved by the French Tennis Federation (FFT), also allowed participants to improve their ranking while consolidating links between Guyanese clubs. Lan Béchard, young champion from Guyana, particularly distinguished himself by winning first place in the youth category.
