If there is a dog that is inseparable from sled dog racing, it is the Husky.
Despite its strong character, this breed is the favorite of the public and mushers.
With the Husky, the spectacle is guaranteed on La Grande Odyssée VVF.
The Grande Odyssée VVF welcomes many breeds of dogs, but there is one that is a real star of sled dog racing: the Husky. Jean Combazard confirms this: “There are several types of dogs. There are hunting dogs that go very fast. And then, behind them, there are purebred dogs like the Husky”. A legendary dog for team sports enthusiasts, but what are its strengths in these competitions? “It is a dog that remains rustic, that is to say it has the ability to withstand very cold temperatures” explains Elsa Borgey who adds that “He’s a very enduring dog.”. On the other hand, according to Clément Raux, “He’s a dog who will never work completely 100%, he will always keep some under his paw.”
The Husky, a stubborn but adorable dog
Another side of the Husky that the musher must deal with is that it is a dog with character. “They are sometimes stubborn, so you don’t have to be more stubborn than them” explains Alexandre Camberlein. It's double or nothing with this dog, “if he decided to run, everything will be fine” says Gaël Brossette, “and then after a while, the dogs will start to trot, and we will say to ourselves, damn, they are tired. And in fact, not at all”. Competitor at heart, the Husky sometimes simply waits for another team to pass or for there to be game on the trail to “get back on track”.
These few character traits in no way affect the popularity of the Husky, because “aside from that, he is a dog who is adorable, who lives with everyone, who plays with children. He is a dog who is playful” concludes Jean Combazard.
