Mustapha Chahad never does lace and all his designs are signed Échnédé. He didn't choose this nickname by chance. “Like this little Australian mammal, I am always prickly”, underlines this 63-year-old from Argenton, who has always liked to sketch the news, with the pious wish to remake the world, by denouncing at the same time the absurdity of war, corruption, incongruous behavior, in short all the miseries and the abuses that plague our society.

The importance of a meeting with Pierre Bonte

His caricatures, which he never exhibited, are accompanied by well-felt comments, and his rebellious spirit was noticed in the 90s by Richard Bohringer, Claude Piéplu, and Pierre Bonte, during chance encounters. “They all encouraged me to continue drawing and writing, but it was the famous journalist, radio and television columnist, whose rebellious side I appreciated in the show The Little Rapporteurpassing through the Chemiserie museum, who really made me decide to persevere by giving me advice. »

Of Moroccan origin and arriving in as a baby, Mustapha grew up in Argenton-sur-Creuse, and had fun, from 1981, illustrating the Bokassa diamond affair, which had poisoned Valéry's presidential campaign Giscard d'Estaing. The themes then discussed were extremely diverse since he denounced various conflicts around the world, stigmatized the Greek debt, and even staged the avian flu. He draws his inspiration from listening to people. “I sit in bars, write down thoughts, and interpret them in my own way,” indicates the sixty-year-old. If the abundant and unbridled news of recent months is a treat for him, accompanied by rants about the war in Ukraine and compassion for the Palestinian people, he has more than one string to his liking. After working as an educator for the Samu social de Châteauroux, he led an active retirement by also giving French lessons to migrants from the Cada d'Argenton-sur-Creuse, hosting karaoke, and supervising tennis lessons.

He also creates film sets

He also creates film and theater sets. Here again, his talent was noticed by a Moroccan director from Ouarzazate. Those who discover his illustrations often encourage him to exhibit. Each time, his answer is clear: “I don’t want to be handcuffed. » But he did not refrain from developing the project of releasing a publication with the help of other local cartoonists, notably Claude Turier and Pierre Roux, whose pencil work he appreciated and who also had a lot to express.
