The organ of Rocamadour: after the controversy, the sacred music festival and the sanctuary reach an agreement

the essential
An agreement was signed between the rector of the sanctuary and the Cantica Sacra association, which supports the Rocamadour sacred music festival. At the heart of the latter: the organ. The musical instrument can be used by both parties.

The matter is now settled. The situation was tense between the rector of the sanctuary and the Cantica Sacra association, which has supported the Rocamadour sacred music festival for 19 years. Numerous disputes have in fact opposed the two parties for several years now. The organ was at the heart of the debates: who owns it? The Rocamadour festival claimed ownership, while the Church contested it, considering that the instrument is assigned ad vitam aeternam to the basilica.

The organ can be used by both parties

Following state mediation, an agreement was reached on January 15 between the diocese of Cahors and the sanctuary of Rocamadour, on the one hand, and the Cantica Sacra Association, on the other hand.

This agreement defines the terms of use of the organ located in the Saint-Sauveur basilica by both parties. It allows the instrument to be used for religious, cultural and educational purposes. It also allows the basilica and other churches in the department to be made available for concerts planned by the Cantica Sacra Association, particularly as part of the Rocamadour Festival, while respecting the use of these places of worship.
