Father Christophe Guéran, parish priest of Ploëmerl, in Morbihan, was last seen on January 17, 2024. He was the subject of a complaint for sexual touching, without it being known whether this procedure has a link with his disappearance .
What happened to the priest of Ploërmel? Just one year ago, in January 2024, Father Christophe Guéran, priest in the town of Ploërmel, in Morbihan, disappeared without explanation. A few months later, we learned that a complaint for sexual touching had been filed against him with the Lorient public prosecutor's office. Today, those who knew him are wondering.
Saying she has known the father “for around fifteen years”, Sister Marie-Magdeleine, spokesperson for the Dominicans of the Holy Spirit and the Notre-Dame-de-Joie children's home, explains to West France that she welcomed him “at least once a month”.
“His mysterious disappearance is a shock,” she confides.
“The fact that his body has not been found gives rise to theses in all directions. It is very hard to be in uncertainty, the unknown,” she assures.
His car found
Father Christophe Guégan disappeared on the night of January 17 to 18, 2024, while he was expected at the religious institute of Berné. He was to celebrate a mass the next day at the Notre-Dame-de-Joie chapel in Ploërmel, but never showed up.
It was the Dominican Sisters of the Holy Spirit who alerted the authorities. An investigation into a worrying disappearance has been opened by the Lorient public prosecutor's office.
-Investigations reveal that Father Guégan's cell phone rang for the last time around 5:30 a.m. in Locunolé, a village located north of Quimperlé, in Finistère. His car was then found, without occupants, in the town.
Despite the deployment of helicopters and a dog brigade, the search remained unsuccessful. Without news of Father Christophe Guéran, a new priest was appointed in Ploërmel, Father Simon Chouanard.
Targeted by a complaint
Nine months after the priest's disappearance, Le Télégramme reveals that the priest was the subject of a complaint for “possible acts of sexual touching”, which BFMTV was able to confirm with the Lorient public prosecutor's office.
Father Christophe Guégan would have been informed that he was being blamed the day before his disappearance by the Bishop of Vannes, according to the local newspaper.
The Bishop of Vannes, Monseigneur Centène, affirmed in a press release last October that he had “never received, neither in 2010 nor until the disappearance of Father Guégan, a complaint from a victim against him, for sexual abuse, particularly on minor”.
Concerning the disappearance of the priest, “the theory of suicide is and remains favored”, the prosecution indicated to BFMTV last fall.
