After unsuccessfully asking for his girlfriend’s hand, a hairdresser from Labgar locked her in his room for two nights. His objective, according to L’Observateur, was to impregnate her in order to force her parents to accept their union. The young man, prosecuted for indecent assault by inciting debauchery and corruption of youth, was sentenced to three months with suspended sentence.
Modou Diallo, a 27-year-old hairdresser living in Labgar, in the Linguère department, was tried last Wednesday by the Louga High Court, reports L’Observateur. The defendant was accused of having maintained a romantic relationship with C. Sarr, a 19-year-old girl. During the hearing, disturbing revelations emerged about this affair which shook part of Djolof. According to L’Observateur, Modou Diallo frequently sent his girlfriend salacious images and pornographic videos.
These practices, which were part of their relationship, also included requests for the young girl to photograph herself naked. Despite the reprimands of C. Sarr’s father, who had forbidden the hairdresser from seeing his daughter, the latter had made numerous attempts to obtain her hand. On five occasions he sent members of his family to propose to the young girl, but the father categorically refused, believing that the young man’s behavior was disrespectful. Still according to L’Observateur, in a desperate act, Modou Diallo invited C. Sarr to his home, where he locked her up for two days.
-He took advantage of this period to have sexual relations with her, hoping to induce a pregnancy and force the parents to accept their union. The girl’s parents, thinking that she had disappeared, alerted the police. C. Sarr was found two days later in the bush. During her hearing at the gendarmerie, she declared that she had voluntarily gone to her boyfriend’s house, saying: “I love him, that’s why I agreed to sleep with him. My parents refuse to seal our marriage,” reports L’Observateur. In court, Modou Diallo admitted the facts and expressed his desire that the young girl be given to him in marriage. The civil party, represented by C. Sarr, confirmed her love for Modou Diallo, adding that she had even asked her uncle to celebrate their marriage, without success.
During the indictment, the prosecution requested strict application of the law. Defense lawyer Sidy Seck argued for leniency, saying: “The two young people must be given in marriage, because they love each other. Mentalities have evolved. Parents must understand that young people today have a different concept of love”reports L’Observateur. Finally, the court found Modou Diallo guilty of the facts and sentenced him to a three-month suspended sentence.
