The Senegalese Human Rights League (LSDH) expresses its deep dismay following the four people who lost their lives in detention in Thiès, Saint-Louis and Mbacké and finally in the Dscos premises in Tambacounda, all within the space of two months (December 2024 and January 2025.)
In a press release, the Senegalese Human Rights League (LSDH) calls on the State of Senegal to “make greater efforts to respect all revised United Nations minimum rules for the treatment of detainees (Nelson Mandela Rules) which have been unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.
The LSDH hopes that at the end of the next interministerial council on this scourge, recommendations and corrective measures will be taken in order to preserve the fundamental right to life of Senegalese citizens who are in places of deprivation of liberty. It calls on the competent authorities to ensure that investigations are carried out and that proportional sanctions are imposed on the perpetrators of these deaths.”
