With its 5 strategically distributed public holidays, spring 2025 offers an opportunity to maximize your leave: by taking just 5 days off, it is possible to enjoy 26 days of rest. Enough to give you ideas for leaving Paris to enjoy it by opting in particular for the train. Trainline, an application for booking train and bus tickets in and Europe, reveals its advice for traveling at a lower price. Unsurprisingly, to conserve your purchasing power, the best thing is to anticipate. Not trivial when we know that TGV ticket prices are going to increase even further.

Train tickets on sale from January 22

In April, setting aside Friday the 18th and Tuesday the 22nd allows you to transform a classic weekend into an extended 5-day break. In May, the public holidays all falling on a Thursday (1st, 8th and 29th) open up remarkable possibilities: by setting the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th, a period of 11 consecutive days of rest becomes accessible. At the end of May, by setting May 28 and 30, a 5-day break is possible. In June, the combination of Friday 6 and Tuesday 10 also guarantees a sequence of 5 days of relaxation.

Train tickets for spring 2025 will be on sale by SNCF from January 22, for travel between March 31 and May 11. “Smart” travelers who book on this date will be able to save up to 63% on their train tickets.

This is the saving that travelers can expect, according to Trainline, on a Paris- flight for tickets booked 11 weeks in advance, compared to only 10% for the same journeys booked 8 weeks before departure. Savings are calculated based on the average price paid by Trainline customers who booked their tickets 11 weeks in advance for journeys scheduled between 29 April 2024 and 1 May 2024, compared to the average price of tickets purchased that week of departure for the same period.

On a Paris- route, an average saving of 33% for reservations made 11 weeks in advance is possible. This could be 39% on a Paris- if you start early.

Many trains will be full

In any case, it is best not to wait too long because places could quickly find takers during this period coveted by many employees. 3Train tickets for the long weekends of Easter and May are particularly popular with travelers, trains fill up quickly and prices increase as departures approach,” says Trainline.

By studying a selection of trips booked over this same period in 2024, Trainline notes a high rate of reservations to the South of France from Paris. And, between one and two months before departure, more than 50% of the trains were already full:

  • Paris – : 54% of trains were full
  • Paris – : 47% of trains were full
  • Paris – Marseille: 49% of trains were full three days after sales opened.

The study was carried out by Trainline by analyzing the percentage of high-speed trains departing from Paris to a selection of destinations, for which tickets were already sold out between 31 and 62 days before departure, compared to all trains initially planned for the selected itineraries and departure dates
