This week in the aperitif column, the co-owner of the Vin Polisson restaurant and the private wine import agency Maelström, Raf Rioux, introduces the team to Looking forward to the return the wines of Julien Pineau, in the Loire region, in France.

First, Chicos’23 is a Sauvignon Blanc whose aromas of white fruits, melon and lemon zest combine with bright herbaceous notes. Quince, dried herbs, grapefruit peel and minerals are supported by firm acidity. In the mouth, the finish is very long.

Then, with Parceque’21, a cabernet franc, we are faced with a vintage that is both accomplished, round and mature. The aromas of blood and smoke rub shoulders with cocoa and macerated cherry in a sip in perfect balance between density and freshness. The experience is long and complex.
