2,900 vehicles cross this commune of Orne and only 1% respect the authorized speed

This is the major concern of Françoise Reig-Hamelin, mayor of Chahains (Orne), relayed during her wishes, Saturday January 11, 2025.

The results of the Engineering 61 study commissioned by the Community of Communes of Pays Fertois and Bocage Carrougien confirm that 2,900 vehicles frequent the axis crossing the commune. And of these 2,900 vehicles, only 1% respects the authorized speed 50 km/h. A major concern, particularly since the accident in August 2024 which cost the life of a mother.

Civil status void

During the ceremony, the mayor recalled the different works carried out in 2024, namely burial electrical networks and reinforcement lines, the passage from the Saur company for water distribution to Veolia with the change of meters and the modification of the organization of waste collection.

The results of the latest census show a perfect stability: 82 inhabitants. This year 2024 has not recorded no marriage, no death and no birth.

New developments

The year 2025 should see the arrival of new residents with the rental of two accommodations . This “ownerless property” had been allocated to the town hall by administrative act, put up for sale and acquired to transform it into a rental property.

The rehabilitation of the room near the recreation area is underway. Dry toilets should complete the installation thanks to a grant from the Maison du Parc and the Geopark.
