Barely a few months after FIFA officially granted the organization of the 2030 World Cup to the Morocco-Spain-Portugal trio, associations launched a campaign against Morocco where supposed “despicable crimes» are perpetrated by the Moroccan authorities against stray dogs.

According to the daily Assabah, which reports the information in its January 17 issue, “FIFA received a virulent letter from environmental activist and animal rights activist Jane Goodall demanding that firm action be taken against Morocco, which plans to slaughter three million stray dogs in the run-up to the 2030 World Cup».

The matter is not limited to the International Organization for the Protection of Animals PETA (For Ethics in the Treatment of Animals), assures the daily. “There is a group of other organizations participating in this campaign against Morocco».

Jane Goodall, a British specialist in primates, ethology and anthropology, considered a leading global expert on the world of chimpanzees and also a United Nations Messenger of Peace, “expressed shock at large-scale massacres by Moroccan authorities».

Speaking to the FIFA Secretary General, she added: “I was also shocked to learn from the International Animal Alliance that you had received detailed files documenting these horrific acts, most of which were carried out using brutal and cruel methods, and yet you seemed to have ignored them.», she wrote in her letter, extracts of which were published by the daily.

The activist even appeared threatening when she declared to FIFA officials: “You must be aware of how football fans around the world, many of whom are animal lovers, will react when they learn of this case».

«This affair will put FIFA back in the spotlight, and I know that you are working hard to rehabilitate its reputation after the recent scandals. But if you don’t act, FIFA will realize its complicity in a horrible atrocity. At your own risk», she continues in a threatening tone.

The British scientist and the international organizations that support her, the daily believes, have gone too far by calling on FIFA to “ensure that the massacres stop, in particular by informing Morocco that the organization of the tournament will be suspended until it puts an end to the massacre campaign».

For its part, the International Animal Alliance has decided to launch a campaign to reveal what it calls “the dirty secret of Morocco“, by documenting, with the help of Moroccan associations, what she describes as “the horrific methods used to kill stray dogs».

Furthermore, a petition has been posted online and has already reached some 20,000 signatures, through which a message of condemnation is addressed to the Ministry of the Interior while urging it to protect dogs.
