Three years that it has punctuated the daily lives of thousands of travelers. Three years of long-term construction, from which we can finally see a terminus announced for April 2026.

Put on track in December 2021, the redesign of the station center of -Préfecture (Val-d'Oise) is starting to take shape along a route traced by the Cergypontaine agglomeration whose destination does not allow any detour: making the Sncf-Rer station and its modern and welcoming surroundings and free it from a past stranded between concrete and bitumen. A challenge worthy of the work, the epicenter of which Cergy- is now the prey.

In September, a brand new escalator, supposed to advantageously replace an escalator undermined by breakdowns, took over the decor. Except that it too experienced some failures… A few weeks later, the monumental staircase, providing the link between the prefecture square and the station, jumped on the bandwagon. Only partially since the majority of the work still remains closed to the public.

Next stop: the bus station

The next stop on the calendar for the metamorphosis of this station Rer A inaugurated in 1979, when the new town of Cergy-Pontoise was still waking up, will mark a decisive step. Next March, the bus stationone of the largest in Ile-de- with its 37 bus lines, will reveal its new face. And will free itself from an outdated charming decor to become a green “eco-station”.

The focus will then be on the reconfiguration of an overly mineral DNA forecourt, the new version of which should emerge in December 2025. Here again, green will be favored with 1,400 m² of green spaces and the planting of a sixty trees. Plane trees, maples and prunus will take root, “shading relaxing lawns with benches, chairs and deckchairs”, promises the Cergypontaine agglomeration.

Natural light

Finally, construction equipment will tackle the renovation of the railway stationthe main course and the epilogue of this XXL overhaul of 21.8 million euros essential to the attractiveness with which the Cergy-Pontoise agglomeration wants to adorn its beating heart. External visibility, interior fittings and passenger comfort will guide the transformation of a station frequented by some 20,000 users every day.

“We have a dark station, too narrow with corners which create insecurity. We will finally have a real station entrance with the name Cergy-Préfecture station inscribed on a glass facade which will let in natural light,” explained, at dawn of the first excavator strokes, Marie-Amélie Metzger, project director at SNCF station and connections.

The Rer station will push the walls. It will thus have three entrances and “a hall which will increase from 400 to 1,000 m2 as well as businesses that guarantee a presence from morning until evening. » A start of treatment if not the remedy for palpable insecurity.
