80 years of solidarity: Secours populaire du Gard blows out its candles and launches its first campaign of the year

On this Friday, January 17, Secours populaire gardois celebrated 80 years of existence on its premises. On the menu, bowl of cider and galette des rois!

80 years of commitment to serving the most disadvantaged is worth celebrating! Between king cakes and cider, the atmosphere was convivial in the premises of the Departmental Federation of Secours populaire du which celebrated its 80th anniversary this Friday, January 17. If the atmosphere was one of conviviality, it was also one of mobilization. Because this anniversary also marks the launch of the first campaign of the year: Don'Actions.

Solidarity at your fingertips

Two euros is the price of a raffle ticket, but also a gesture that can change lives. This Friday, in the premises of the popular relief at 104 route d', laughter and applause were exchanged before quickly delving into the next actions carried out by the association, now recently in its eighties. At the forefront, the Don'Actions campaign which invites everyone to participate in this great chain of solidarity. “In Gard, books of ten tickets will be in circulation from tomorrow (Saturday January 18, Editor’s note), and until March 21″explains Florence Luisière, general director of the Gard branch.

The funds collected will help finance essential actions for the association: solidarity trucks, energy, water, and much more. In addition, on January 25, a solidarity lottery will be organized at Mas Verdier, at 2:30 p.m., the profits from which will help finance projects against poverty around the world, particularly in Madagascar, where the installation of water pumps is a flagship project.

In 2024, increasing numbers

For Fabienne Lauron, general secretary of the Gard branch, the objective is clear: “Collect resources and publicize our actions.” With 900 volunteers in Gard – compared to 90,000 nationally – Secours populaire continues to grow. In 2024, the local association was able to help nearly 15,000 people, a figure which underlines the importance of the association, “but it is also a figure that continues to increase every year”adds Marjorie Vanel, volunteer.

The year 2024 in a few figures

Among the notable figures for this year 2024 in Gard:

-
  • 15,000 people were supported by volunteers.

  • 80,000 food packages were distributed.

  • Nearly two hundred children were supported educationally.

  • 150 toy collections were organized in Gard (100 in Nîmes) as part of the Green Santas campaign.

Among the major actions planned this year, the Day of the Forgotten Holidays “scheduled for August 20” on the Champs de Mars in promises to be memorable. “80,000 people to celebrate 80 years of commitment”smiles Fabienne Lauron. Perhaps with the participation of the artist Angèle, we suggest… But now, time for the galette des rois. Because yes, 80 years should be celebrated, and above all, it should be shared!
