The rehabilitation of the pool from IME L’Ensoleillade to Saint-André-de-Sangonis is still behind schedule. Scheduled for 2024, its opening to the public was initially postponed until the start of the 2025 school year. “It will finally be in September 2026,” announced the president of the Community of communes Hérault ValleyJean-François Soto, on the occasion of the ceremony of wishes to the population, organized by the community, this Thursday, January 16 at Pouget.

The fault resulted in a cost of the work which turned out to be higher than initially expected, according to Jean-François Soto. “The work will begin at the start of the 2025 school year for delivery in September 2026 for a cost now estimated between 1 and 1.5 million euros,” said the president, who, as in other communities, is facing budgetary balances. complex at the start of 2025.

A necessity for schools

“It's one of the few skills we weren't able to handle. This project will allow schools to learn swimming in our community of municipalities,” recalled the president of the intermunicipality. Indeed, in the 28 municipalities of this territory no installation of this type is yet offered to the population which now numbers 42,000 inhabitants.

Worse, with the closure of the Lodève swimming pool for work, the more than 75,000 inhabitants of the three intercommunalities (Clermontais, Vallée de l'Hérault and Lodévois and Larzac) can only count on one pool, open all year round, that from the Clermont-l'Hérault aquatic center.

As a reminder, teaching all students to swim is a national priority, included in the common core of knowledge and skills defined by National Education. But for the students of the Hérault Valley, they will have to wait a little longer before taking the plunge.
