In a press release, Pierre-Yves Cadalen, LFI deputy for the 2nd constituency of Finistère (Brest Centre) indicates that he is filing a complaint for defamation against the president of the Department of Finistère Maël de Calan.
This complaint, which will be transmitted on Monday January 20, 2025 to the Brest court, follows the program “Le Café du commerce” broadcast on Tébéo, on December 27, 2024, a talk show during which the elected official of the right and the center declared that the Brest parliamentarian was “factious and anti-Semitic” or “in any case” that he supported “factious and anti-Semitic positions”.
“Violent comments that undermine my honor,” said Pierre-Yves Cadalen, who explains that he is “a member of a movement carrying the ideals enshrined in our republican motto. This defamation of course affects me personally but also harms my movement and all the citizens that I represent.”
“Personal attacks, I withdraw them”
In response, Maël de Calan believes that “it is time to open our eyes and see insoumise France as what it is: a dangerous extremist party which has left the republican framework. I don't know Pierre-Yves Cadalen and therefore I don't want to assume what he thinks personally. Personal attacks I withdraw. On the other hand, he is a deputy and activist for France Insoumise which has become a factious party, and which is directly responsible for the rise of anti-Semitism in France.

For the president of the Department of Finistère, the “factious” character of LFI is established “because its executives stir up violence, call into question the results of elections, support dictators in Venezuela or Syria, systematically take the side of the rioters against the police and the gendarmes.”
“Apologize rather than attack me”
In his eyes, Pierre-Yves Cadalen's party is “responsible for the rise in anti-Semitism, because rebellious France, which describes Hamas as a “resistance movement” and has still not condemned the attacks of October 7 , designated our compatriots of the Jewish faith to be vindictive. Licra, Crif and many political leaders from the right and the left had the opportunity to denounce the anti-Semitism of LFI in a very clear manner. I associate myself with them. Pierre-Yves Cadalen should apologize publicly rather than attack me,” punctuates Maël de Calan.
