Guyanese Lucie Decosse has just reached a new professional level. Appointed manager of the French women's judo team since January 16, she plays an essential role in preparing the judoka team for major sporting events and especially the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The year is off to a good start for the 2012 Olympic judo champion, Lucie Decosse, the brand new manager of the French women's team since January 16.
The former high-level athlete was appointed by the president of the French judo federation, Stéphane Nomis, who told the press : “Lucie is a great champion. It's a special name in French judo. She is a talent, a technician, a very strong personality. I am very happy that she is joining the staff.”
Lucie Decosse is very aware of the responsibilities entrusted to her for the next four years:
“I am delighted with this appointment. I was offered this position, I thought about it and I accepted because I also want to join in the tradition of people who have supported the French team to achieve the best possible results. »
And to emphasize: “I was a cadet coach and I stopped last year because I needed to take a step back, which did me good. I try to do the things I enjoy professionally. This nomination is a great recognition of the sporting world. I receive congratulations even if not everyone is happy I imagine because there is rarely unanimous agreement. But for those who have followed me for years as a competitor then as a coach and now a manager, this makes them happy. »
-Lucie Decosse is aware of having been a spearhead for judokas from Guyana and elsewhere and of having proven that it is possible to go very far.
The athlete returns to his role as “responsible”. She will not directly coach the judokates:
“Part of my role will be to be in training for technical sessions and on the other hand, I will have to, along with the other people under my responsibility, plan the season for each athlete. I will also liaise between the staff and the athletes and also liaise with the manager of the French team. »
A delicate role that will have to be played during the four years of the Olympiad to accompany the athletes and staff to Los Angeles to win Olympic titles. Titles that some champions narrowly missed in 2024 by finishing as bronze medalists.
“The French women's team has always had results and it is a challenge to put them in the best conditions so that they still have good results. »
For this, there must be team cohesion among the general staff from start to finish underlines Lucie Decosse, and above all it will be necessary to create a strong group of athletes where everyone respects each other.
The new manager of the French women's team will have to work hard to succeed in the mission but as she reminds us: “I have received a lot of messages from family and people from the sports world in Guyana. I have been happy all these years, whether in my career as an athlete or on a private level, to still be followed and encouraged. When I was an athlete it gave me strength and now in my professional career it is additional support and I say thank you. »
