Last July, Morocco and Malawi – which has just renewed its support for the sovereignty of the Kingdom – decided to raise their relations to the level of a tangible and multidimensional partnership through a Joint Commission.
Malawi reaffirmed, Thursday in Rabat, its support for the territorial integrity of Morocco, and the sovereignty of the Kingdom over all its territory, including the Moroccan Sahara region.
This position was expressed in a joint statement signed following talks between the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and his Malawian counterpart, Ms. Nancy Tembo.
In this press release, Ms. Tembo also welcomed the growing international consensus and the dynamic led by King Mohammed VI in support of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, qualifying it as the only credible, serious and realistic solution.
She also welcomed the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the regional Sahara dispute.
-In July 2024, the two ministers signed several legal instruments in Laâyoune, at the end of the work of the 1st session of the Morocco-Malawi Joint Commission.
This Commission opened a new chapter in sectoral cooperation between Morocco and Malawi and covers various sectors such as agriculture, food security and mining, water and sanitation, energy development, transport and infrastructure, land, housing and urban development, higher education and scientific research as well as the promotion of tourism, cultural, religious and political programs.
