SENEGAL-EDUCATION-SPORT / Matam: an association is involved in the development of school sport – Senegalese press agency

Ourossogui, January 15 (APS) – Nearly a hundred students from school 3 of Ourossogui were introduced, Wednesday, to six sporting disciplines by the Matam Sports association whose ambition is to develop school sport in the region.

“Our objective is to develop school sport in the Matam region. This is why today we brought together nearly a hundred students from school 3 in Ourossogui to introduce them to various sporting disciplines,” explained Abdoulaye Aw Guèye, member of the said association.

He spoke on the occasion of the third edition of this initiative called “Sport at school”, an event held at the municipal stadium of Ourossogui.

For this edition, the students were introduced to six disciplines, namely football, , handball, badminton, judo and taekwondo, in collaboration with technicians from Matam and Ourossogui.

The choice made on primary schools is explained by the fact that Matam Sports “wants to allow children to grow up with the mentality of a sportsman and to have an openness”.

“We chose children because they are also the engine of development,” said Mr. Guèye, specifying that the first two activities were held in Ranérou and Kanel.

Younouss Diallo, director of school 3 in Ourossogui and representing the education and training inspector (IEF) of Matam, welcomed this initiative, which contributes, he said, to the development of children’s health.

“These are activities that children do not practice every day in schools due to lack of material resources. It complements the sessions held in schools. This allows students to discover other sports,” underlined Mr. Diallo.

Matam Sports is an association founded in 2017 by basketball player Ibrahima Hamidou Thiam, also president of the Matam Regional Basketball League.

Outside of sport, the association is active in the environment and health.
