Will night hunting of wild boars soon be made easier in Belgium? A bill has just been tabled to this effect.
Two political parties, the CD&V and the N-VA want to make it easier to hunt wild boars at night. Requesting authorization to use night vision goggles and sound suppressors for hunting weapons.
These two devices are currently banned in Belgium. The CD&V therefore tabled a bill aimed at lifting this ban. A proposal co-signed by the N-VA party.
Currently, night hunting is only possible with a somewhat archaic system, as RTBF explains. Currently, hunters must hunt at night with a light mounted on their weapon. If they see a wild boar, they light it and only have a few seconds to target the animal which often runs away or is only injured.
Voices raised for fear of supplying criminals with material
Indeed, opponents of this bill fear that this type of material will end up in the hands of uncaring people.
Other voices, this time “green”, remind us that if there are so many wild boars in Belgium, it would already be necessary…. the hunters stop feeding them. A speech well known to French hunters.
-However, this proposal is currently under study. Nothing has yet been voted on or acted upon.
