Officers from the Pikine police station, imprisoned on suspicion of police misconduct leading to the death of Mohamed Diop, known as Mohamed Taya, appeared before the high court on Tuesday. The public prosecutor requested a sentence of 7 years in prison against them, and the deliberation is set for February 11.

As a reminder, Mohamed Diop Taya was arrested on March 19, 2024 by police officers from the Pikine police station. Taken to the Technopole, he was allegedly violently beaten. Aware of the seriousness of his injuries, the six agents then transported him to the Dominique Health Center, before he was transferred to the Main Hospital.

Unfortunately, Mohamed Diop succumbed to his injuries on the night of March 24 to 25, 2024, triggering a series of protests in Pikine. The six police officers, arrested since April, had been placed under arrest warrant pending their trial.
