Three fishermen missing after canoe capsizes in Saint-Louis

In Saint-Louis, three fishermen are currently missing following the overturning of a canoe near the breach, news reported this Wednesday by the Local Artisanal Fishing Committee (CLPA) and relayed by our colleagues from Sud Quotidien.

Last Saturday, the same place was the scene of a similar tragedy involving two canoes, which unfortunately cost the lives of five people. Mamadou Sarr, CLPA communications officer, shared this information with the Senegalese Press Agency (APS), stressing that the occupants of one of the boats came from Guet-Ndar, a fishing district of Saint-Louis.

Sarr explained that the two canoes encountered difficulties while trying to cross the gap, resulting in the disappearance of four people initially. In the meantime, the body of one of the fishermen on board the other boat was discovered. The victims resided in the Gandiol region, south of Saint-Louis.

The communications officer regretted that certain safety instructions issued by the CLPA, based on warnings from the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) concerning dangerous swells, had not been respected. This information was also relayed by Sud Quotidien, emphasizing the importance of paying attention to weather forecasts to avoid such tragedies.
