The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) will organize a hackathon in February in Fez where young entrepreneurs will present sustainable solutions for the Water-energy-food-ecosystems Nexus.

This action is included in the Union’s 2025 action plan. This exercise is marked by the proclamation of Alexandria and Tirana as the first Mediterranean capitals of culture and dialogue. The year 2025 also coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the first meeting of Euro-Mediterranean foreign ministers marking the start of the Barcelona Process for enhanced cooperation and dialogue in the region.

This year, the UfM will also activate subsidy programs for inclusive digital trade and green jobs. In April, a new action plan on the socio-economic inclusion of people with disabilities in the Mediterranean will be presented at a conference in Athens. Likewise, the Blue Mediterranean Partnership’s first investments in sustainable blue economy projects will be presented at the United Nations Ocean Conference.

An evaluation of the UfM’s actions in terms of gender equality in the region will also be carried out. Also, a second UfM-OECD report on the state of regional integration will also be unveiled. Among the planned actions is also the organization of a Mediterranean Pavilion at COP30 in Belém as well as a partnership with AECID for the publication of a study on the adaptation of urban transport systems to climate change.
