Last night, the weather conditions were favorable for the departure of boats in the North Sea with, on board, migrants trying to reach the United Kingdom. On Monday, several crossing attempts were aborted in the evening, but some small boatssmall motorized inflatable boats, still managed to get on the water.
This January 13, the CROSS (regional operational surveillance and rescue center) Gris-Nez notably had to intervene for a boat in serious difficulty off the coast of Calais, in Pas-de-Calais.
With the help of the patrol boat l'Armoise, the small boat in difficulty was quickly located. In order to ensure the safety of the exiles, the gendarmerie patrol boat followed the makeshift vessel for a few minutes, before a engine failure endangering the occupants of the zodiac was finally reported to them.
The migrants on board the small boat wishing to be rescued were then able to board the Armoise.
In a press release, the Maritime Prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea (Prémar) explains that the state of health of two people was particularly worrying. The CROSS Gris-Nez had to establish a conference call with the Samu de coordination maritime maritime (SCMM) of Le Havre et l’Armoise. “The SCMM doctor recommended treatment at the dock in Calais and hired Samu 62“, details Prémar in its assessment of the night.
Once in Calais, the 76 people who agreed to be brought back to dry land were taken care of by the emergency services. The two people in critical health were also treated.
