The prefecture is reducing authorized speeds in three departments. In addition, it is prohibited to burn plant waste or use wood stoves.
Faced with the episode of fine particle pollution (PM10) which is currently affecting the Nord, Pas-de-Calais and Oise, the Hauts-de-France prefecture has taken initiatives to reduce the impacts, in particular by limiting speed on the roads on Tuesday January 14 and Wednesday January 15, as reported by “ici Picardie” (formerly France Bleu).
In these three departments, the speed on the highways is lowered to 110 km/h instead of the usual 130 km/h. Lanes which are generally limited to 110 km/h have their limit reduced to 90 km/h. As for vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes, they must travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. This speed reduction has been in place in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais since Monday. Enforcement for Oise begins Tuesday at 6 p.m., extending until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. for all three departments.
The Hauts-de-France prefecture has also imposed other restrictions in residential areas: it is prohibited to “burn plant waste in the open air” as well as using “individual, auxiliary or decorative, non-efficient wood-burning appliances (such as open fireplaces or closed hearths dating from before 2002)”. It is also requested to postpone “maintenance or cleaning work carried out by individuals or local authorities with thermal engine equipment (such as mowers or hedge trimmers) or products containing organic solvents (such as white spirit, paints, decorative varnishes and automotive touch-up products, etc.) ».
These directives for individuals apply in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais since Tuesday 6 a.m. In Oise, they must be implemented from Wednesday 6 a.m. These restrictions remain in force in the three departments of the region until Wednesday 11:59 p.m.
