Municipal elections 2026 in Paris: six months after its creation, already defections within the Union Capitale group

When it was created in July, it opportunely claimed to be the first opposition group to the mayor (PS) of . Six months later, has the situation (already) changed for Union capital? This month of January, the group co-founded by Agnès Evren, the president of the Les Républicains de Paris federation, Geoffroy Boulard, mayor (LR) of the 17th arrondissement and councilor (Horizon) Pierre-Yves Bournazel is already seeing several of its elected officials take the tangent.

According to our information, the mayor (LR) of the 8th arrondissement, Jeanne d'Hauteserre, is preparing to join the group Les Républicains, les Centristes – Demain Paris in the coming days! chaired by Francis Szpiner. The councilor will be accompanied by two other elected officials from the 8th century: Vincent Baladi and Delphine Malachard des Reyssiers. This rally must be made official this Tuesday evening, on the occasion of the wishes of the former mayor of the 16th century. Other elected officials, notably district mayors, could imitate them in the coming weeks. With these three defections, Union Capital now has 22 elected officials compared to 16 for the senator's group.

Why such a turnaround, just six months after the birth of Union Capital? “The political situation has changed,” confides Vincent Baladi. The mayor is not representing herself, we can no longer just be in the Hidalgo bashing, this reshuffles the cards. We choose to join a stronger and more powerful group, where elected officials will be respected. At Capital Union, despite all the work accomplished, the political line was not clear. »

« The Hidalgo bashing is no longer a carrier, also confesses Jeanne d'Hauteserre. For it to work, we need cohesion and a project that speaks to Parisians in order to regain the city. I felt that Francis Szpiner was better suited to embody this proposed program. »

The senator, who does not rule out at this stage being the candidate of the right in 2026, necessarily takes a positive view of these rallies, he who slammed the door in March 2024 of the Changer Paris group chaired by Rachida Dati. “There were eleven of us and today there are sixteen of us,” rejoices Francis Szpiner. This is only the beginning of the LR gathering. All this phosphorus, there is a training phenomenon. » According to our information, two other strong elected officials could join the senator's group before the next Paris Council, which will take place from February 11 to 14.
