It is a slice of the history of Swiss medical institutions and higher education institutions that is closing. A golden age, for some. Former head of health in the canton of Vaud, then Secretary of State for Education and Research. Charles Kleiber died during the night from Monday to Tuesday at the CHUV in Lausanne, at the age of 82. He contributed like few other personalities to the architecture of the Swiss academic landscape, particularly on the French side.

It all started, moreover, with architecture. This native of Moutier studied at EPFL and obtained his diploma in 1968. He approached health by designing the Pays d’Enhaut hospital, then moved towards strategy and management, with training at the Institut advanced studies in public administration. His thesis focused on the Vaud health system, and led him almost naturally to the public health and health planning service of the canton, before taking charge of the Vaud hospices.
