The departmental assembly of stations of the National Sea Rescue Society (SNSM) of La Manche highlighted the involvement of volunteer rescuers in rescue operations undertaken under the coordination of the Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (Cross) of Jobourg (Manche).

196 operations with a commitment from the SNSM
Head of operations at Cross Jobourg, Aude Duval Molinos took stock of the rescue activity during the year 2024. Of the 575 op
operations carried out for the department of Manche, 237 concerned interventions where human life was involved, 196 operations saw the engagement of SNSM means from La Manche for 418 people involved.. For the SNSM, interventions for sailing pleasure represented 35%, motor pleasure 30%, nautical leisure 25%, fishing vessels 10%. In addition, a trend of the year: the number of isolated fishermen during high tide is increasing.
In terms of surveillance of 18 beaches carried out by the SNSM, 21 interventions concerned bathers, 70 on the beach and public roads, 605 people were treated, 572 preventions were carried out.

New means, infrastructures
The departmental assembly allowed Jean-Marie Choisy, departmental delegate, to discuss the 2025 projects (resources and infrastructure) not without some questions about financial feasibility. Thus, over 2024-2027, 2.81 million euros of financing are to be consolidated for a Sealegs boat in Barfleur in 2025 (for €170,000), an all-weather canoe for Barfleur (in 2027 for 2.4 million) and a semi-rigid for Hauteville-sur-Mer if shelter construction. In terms of infrastructure for 2025: optimization of the Pirou shelter, development of the Saint-Martin-de-Bréhal premises and extension of the hold and premises at Mont Saint-Michel.
