The Medina Niang Oryx district, in Thiaroye sur mer, was the scene of a tragedy. Abdou Faye, a young footballer with promising talent, was stabbed to death. According to witnesses, who spoke to L’Observateur, it all started with “a banal argument”, which turned into a fight, pitting the victim against the younger brother of the alleged murderer last Saturday.

The 16-year-old footballer manhandles his protagonist and sends him to the ground before heckling him. Frustrated, the latter hastens to return home and tells his misadventure to A. Diaw, his older brother. Who decides to avenge his younger brother.

Not knowing that he was being hunted, Abdou Faye went the next day, Sunday, January 12, to the ceremony taking place in the neighborhood. A. Diaw, who was watching for him, apostrophes: “The blows rain before the participants in the ceremony intervene to separate them.”

Vengeful, Diaw enters a store and asks the manager to sell him a knife. The shopkeeper collects the 100 CFA coin and does so without asking any questions. The client hides the weapon in his clothes and rushes towards the victim, who is hit in the chest.

Seriously injured, the teenager ran back to the family home. “Mom, I’ve been stabbed, I’m going to die,” he moaned, his hand on his chest. He comes out of the house before collapsing, reports the newspaper. Which indicates that Fallou Faye died shortly after being admitted to the emergency room of Pikine hospital.

Pursued by a furious crowd, the alleged murderer barricades himself in a house. “Give him to us so that he suffers the same fate,” chanted his pursuers.

According to the source, he only owed his salvation to the intervention of the gendarmes, alerted by a local notable. Arrested, A. Diaw was placed in police custody.

“This has to stop. Whether they are family, folk or religious ceremonies, we must no longer accept that they take place late into the night. These are moments of great insecurity during which young people take the opportunity to resolve their differences,” points out the district delegate, Birane Niang, quoted by L’Observateur.
