A pioneering eco-district of 35 housing units will be created in Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas, in the .

After more than a year and a half of incubation and €300,000 “ 2030” grantthe commune of Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas can be proud of having been selected as part of “France 2030” and its program “Sustainable City Demonstrator” for the implementation phase of its eco-neighborhood project “La Diane” in the hamlet of Jasse de Bernard.

“This project, supported by the municipality, could not have been certified without the management of the GIE SPL30-Segard of the Department of Gard, but also the strong involvement of several players, whether financial such as Banque Des Territoires and Alès Agglomération, policy with the Pays Cévennes, professionals with town planners, architects, design offices, professionals in wood, insulating straw and raw earth, school of mines, CFA for building trades »list Jean-Michel Perret, mayor of Saint-Hilaire de -Brethmas.

11 million euros

This project eco-neighborhood, of around 35 housing units, “in osmosis with the existing hamlet”, with a total cost estimated at 11 million euros for its achievement, will receive as such more than 3 million euros in “France 2030” grants for additional costs linked to its “constructive environmental excellence” and a municipal contribution of around €700,000.

Other grants will be requested in order to help the commune and enable local industrialization in the Cévennes basin of Alès. This through the different processes used, the creation of professional sectors for the realization of future housing as well as the creation of professional training dedicated to Eco materials with the École des Mines IMT in Alès, as well as the training center for CFA apprentices in the building trades in Méjannes-lès-Alès.

Biodiversity, social diversity, shops…

The elements that make up the urban project are numerous: respect for biodiversity by avoiding a protected sector in the location area, social diversity with 25% family social housing and 25% of social housing dedicated to the elderly, 50% of over-the-counter housing, societal diversity with creation of shops and a micro nurserydensification of housing while avoiding a massification effect, parking of vehicles with electrical terminals charging station at the entrance to the neighborhood, creation of a common square as well as a space dedicated to family gardens, creation of a biodiversity discovery trail in the protected area.

Pines from the Cévennes massif, rice straw from the Camargue…

The constructive project is based on a wooden frame from the maritime pines of the Cévennes massifan outer envelope based on Camargue rice straw panelsinterior walls made of compressed raw earth bricks, buildings in R+2 or R+3 depending on the slope of the land. Heating and air conditioning will be provided by geothermal energy, note, collective electricity self-consumption by photovoltaic panels.

“The transition into housing is entirely possible”

“The municipal team wishes to demonstrate that the transition in housing is entirely possible by putting in place all the tools that allow access to it at an affordable economic cost through the creation of supply chains for materials and industrialization of different processes as well as the training of different actors, whether engineers or construction workers. The essential transition in housing must be made through desirable and financially affordable housing, while limiting artificialization and respecting biodiversity”concludes the councilor.
