the rebels have officially filed a motion of censure

The La insoumise group in the National Assembly tabled, this Tuesday, January 14, a motion of censure against the government of François Bayrou, a few hours after the general policy declaration.

No respite for François Bayrou. The new Prime Minister will soon face a first motion of censure, at the initiative of La France insoumise. Barely a few hours after the head of government's general policy declaration, Mathilde Panot's group submitted its proposal signed by rebellious communists and environmentalists. It will be examined in 48 hours at the earliest.

To justify this motion, which could bring down the government as was the case after only three months in office for Michel Barnier, the rebels cite the absence of a vote of confidence.

“The Prime Minister's refusal to request a vote of confidence from the National Assembly following his general policy declaration is an admission (…) the motion of censure will be the occasion for a vote of no confidence which will clarify the position of parliamentarians”, write Mathilde Panot and other parliamentarians.

“The sooner you leave, the better,” the LFI leader said directly to François Bayrou in the chamber.

The unknown of the PS

This first motion of censure has, at this time, little chance of succeeding. The position of the Socialist Party is not clear, the members of the rose party having set as a principle of non-censorship a revision of the pension reform, among other things. Expectations fulfilled by François Bayrou in his general policy declaration?

The party's First Secretary Olivier Faure, who must comment on censorship in a television interview this Tuesday evening.

But even if the socialists supported this proposal, the outcome would not be changed. It is rather the posture of the National Rally which can determine the outcome of the vote, as was the case for the previous government of Michel Barnier.

“Nothing on purchasing power, nothing on insecurity, nothing concrete on immigration: the lives of the French are largely absent from this speech for nothing,” commented party president Jordan Bardella, without commenting. on this deadline.
