Announced on loan to OL for the end of the season, playmaker Thiago Almada was presented to his future teammates this Monday. The Argentinian arrives from Botafogo, another club owned by John Textor.
Banned from recruiting in January, OL can still obtain players in the form of a loan. Argentine playmaker Thiago Almada, who has been playing at Botafogo since last summer, will be loaned to the Rhone club for the end of the season. The 23-year-old was presented to his future teammates this Monday.
Sage compared Almada to Cherki
As a reminder, OL and Botafogo belong to Eagle Football Group, owned by the American John Textor. In July 2024, the Brazilian club spent nearly 20 million euros with Atlanta in MLS to recruit the 2022 world champion. In the space of half a season with Botafogo, Thiago Almada achieved the championship double -Copa Libertadores.
With Botafogo, Thiago Almada participated in 26 matches in all competitions, for three goals and two assists. “He’s a player who has qualities that are a bit similar to Rayan Cherki and Saïd Benrahma,” said Pierre Sage last December, alongside the announcement of the player who was joining OL in January.
“Almada would give us a little more technical touch in what we do, with mastery, with the idea of having the ball and impacting our opponents,” added the Lyon coach. “So we would consider it good news.” Officially, the two clubs have not yet announced this arrival.
