Marrakech confirms its positioning as a flagship tourism destination. The ocher city recorded a historic record in 2024, welcoming 4 million visitors during the year 2024. This positive assessment was drawn up on Friday by Hamid Bentahar, president of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Marrakech-Safi, during the regional tour of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT). Among the indicators noted, we cite the achievement of more than 12 million overnight stays in the region as well as an average occupancy rate exceeding 72%. These figures demonstrate, according to Mr. Bentaher, the strong attractiveness of the destination as well as the positive dynamics of the sector. “These exceptional performances reflect the joint efforts of public and private actors to promote Marrakech as a destination of choice on a global scale,” he said. And to specify that “these results are a source of collective pride, but above all they must inspire us to strengthen our efforts to position Marrakech as an essential and sustainable destination, like the great world tourist capitals”. The president of the CRT underlined, in this regard, that the ocher city must capitalize on this strategic momentum to continue to accelerate its competitiveness while being part of a logic of sustainable development. For his part, Achraf Fayda, director general of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), insisted on the importance of an inclusive territorial approach, taking into account the potential abounding in the different provinces of the Marrakech-Safi region. . In this context, he reaffirmed the ONMT’s commitment to supporting Marrakech in this dynamic of market diversification, stressing that this strategy is essential to consolidate the achievements and maintain the pace of growth. This meeting made it possible to define areas of collaboration between the CRT of Marrakech-Safi, the ONMT and professionals in the sector. Participants thus committed to joining forces to keep Marrakech on an upward trajectory, with the aim of making 2025 an even more memorable year.
It should be noted that Marrakech marks the first stop on the ONMT tour in the different regions of the Kingdom. This initiative, carried out with the support of the National Tourism Confederation, aims to consolidate relationships with professionals, discuss the opportunities and challenges of the sector and align efforts to promote the Morocco destination on a national and international scale. During this tour, the ONMT will present its strategic orientations and upcoming actions for each region to support operators in their development. This direct dialogue will also make it possible to collect the needs and proposals of professionals in order to best adapt the initiatives to local realities.
During these meetings, the strategic plan for the sector, marketing and commercial measures in priority markets will be discussed in particular to ensure optimal and sustainable growth for the twelve regions, each according to the specificities and potential that it offers.
