These elections to the Chambers of Agriculture constitute, in the words of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, “a crucial sequence to ensure the representation of agricultural interests and the development of rural territories”. But it is not always easy to navigate such a professional ballot. Attempt to explain…
– Why elections?
The Chambers of Agriculture are “professional assemblies representative of the diversity of the agricultural world”, summarizes the Chambers of Agriculture France network. Each Chamber, whether departmental, regional or even national, therefore has “a function of representing the interests of agriculture to public authorities and local authorities”. The agricultural world is therefore preparing to elect its representatives for six years.
– When are the elections taking place?
According to the decree of April 12, 2024, the electoral campaign started on January 7, 2025 and will end on January 30 at midnight.
During January, each voter will receive voting materials, specifies the ministry, as well as information on possible voting methods. Voting by mail will begin in mid-January and ballots must be sent before midnight on January 31, 2025 to be taken into account. Electronic voting will be open from January 15, 2025 until January 31, 2025 at midnight.
– Who votes for whom, for what?
“A departmental Chamber of Agriculture is made up of 33 members elected by direct suffrage for a period of six years and distributed among ten colleges. Added to this are the advisor(s) of the CRPF (Regional Forest Property Center), elected by the college of forest owners (election in 2023),” explains the Chambers of Agriculture France network.
There are therefore several colleges of which college 1 “Operators and similar” is the largest with eighteen seats. A voter can only vote in one college and one department.

– Who is elected?
This month of January, voters will therefore elect “the members of the 88 departmental Chambers of Agriculture as well as the members of the college of heads of operations of the Regional Chambers” summarizes the Chambers of Agriculture France network.
At the departmental level, the elected members of the different colleges will constitute the plenary assembly. They will elect, during the installation session, the president of the Chamber of Agriculture as well as the office. This election must take place in the month following the proclamation of the results, to be in place at the beginning of March.
In March, the elected members of the Departmental Chambers will in turn elect the members of the 11 Regional Chambers of Agriculture.
Finally, at the end of March, the meeting of the presidents of the Chambers of Agriculture constitutes Chambers of Agriculture France. The presidents of the Chambers then elect the president of Chambers of Agriculture France and the members of the board of directors who elect the office.
