QuickZoll: simplified VAT or organized theft?

Interviewed by Tages-Anzeiger, tax expert Martin Kocher criticizes QuickZoll’s single rate. According to him, there is no “legal basis which would approve such a simplification of rates”. He therefore believes that the app “leads to false taxation and tends to encourage import smuggling”. On the side of the German-speaking Foundation for Consumer Protection, we applaud the ease of use of QuickZoll, but we disapprove of the rate at 8.1%. The Confederation is thus granting itself unjustified additional revenue to the detriment of citizens, believes André Bähler, political leader. For him, if only one VAT rate is possible, “it should be between the reduced rate and the normal rate”.
