Since Gerhard Pfister announced his resignation last Monday, many German-speaking names have been mentioned to succeed him. Among the rare French-speaking papables, that of Isabelle Chassot, perfectly bilingual, is at the top.
But the Fribourgeoise is not interested. She was indeed contacted “informally”, as she wishes to clarify because the party presidency will meet on Wednesday to decide on the profile sought.
The States Advisor quickly brushed aside the question. “I want to return to the daily political work of a senator. For 18 months now, I have been very busy with the parliamentary commission of inquiry (CEP) on Credit Suisse. It was fascinating, I absolutely do not regret this experience but I I am delighted to once again fully defend the interests of my canton”, explains Isabelle Chassot.
Isabelle Chassot cites, for example, economic measures, relations with Europe and energy and climate transitions as themes close to her heart.
For the Fribourgeoise, reconciling her mandate as senator and the head of the party is not possible. In addition, she shares the idea of the party presidency to make a generational change. The current president is 62 years old. “Young people will bring new themes. It is essential that the party is brought until 2027, the date of the next federal elections, and beyond by the new generation,” insists Isabelle Chassot.
The name of the future president of the Center will be known in June.
